The Phelps County Amateur Radio Technical Society Met for the first time in many months ....... At our most recent meeting many possible future activites were discussed, including 1 Special event station. The Special event station discussed was operating from the Highest point in Missouri (Tom Sauk Mountain Tower) over one weekend. Still to be determined are these items. 1.) Can (and will the State Allow) we use this site and the tower for this activity. 2.) If the above is approved, WHEN will we do it 3.) Operating Frequencies and Modes (ie: Phone {fm / SSB}, CW, RTTY, Digital, etc... 4.) Obtaining Special event Call Sign. 5.) Designing and making a Special Event QSL card (something I can easily do) 6.) how many radios etc. Also Discussed were operations as a group to help county and grid humters with the area as there are some special county hunter areas here in mid Missouri, such as a few 2 county points (see the county hunter's website for more info. There are also some (read many) grids that exist in this part of the state where there are few to NO ham operators. Next Meeting is the 7th of March 2009 at 9am, again at Shoney's Restaurant in Rolla Mo. All are welcome you need not be a ham to come and meet wtih us! Dues were collected at the meeting and we now have again our CORE 5 members paid. More to come Watch this space, I don't have my notes in front of me to add anything else. (OH YEAH we need to set up a day to go to Rich's house and put up a tower for the Repeaters.... , date tbd, and time tbd) T |
